ST.PATRICK,
T.F. NORTH AND |
Released: February 1, 2006
Saint Patrick, Thornton Fractional North and Morgan Park are the new teams that will play in the 2006 Proviso West Holiday Tournament.
Saint Patrick and Thornton Fractional North will be making their first appearance on the Proviso hardwood over the holidays. Morgan Park returns to the Christmas Classic, after playing there from 1975 to 1983. The 1975-76 Mustangs finished second in Holiday Tournament play and later went on to win the state championship March.
The complete field for next year includes Evanston, Fenwick, Glenbrook North, Hillcrest, Homewood-Flossmoor, Julian, Morgan Park, New Trier, Peoria Central, Proviso East, Proviso West, Saint Joseph, Saint Patrick, Thornton Fractional North, Von Steuben and Whitney Young.
All three of the new teams bring quality ranked players to the event. Saint Patrick’s Sam Maniscalco, T.F. North’s Demond Watt and Laurence Redmond and Morgan Park’s Isaiah Martin are all among state’s top ranked underclassmen.
In addition to the players on the new squads, a long list of top players to watch should highlight one of the deepest player fields at Proviso in recent memory. Among some of the well know stars scheduled to participate are: Jeremy McCray, Evanston; Xavier Humphrey, Fenwick; Chris Stamas, Glenbrook North; Kevin Dillard, Homewood-Flossmoor; Supo Sanni, Homewood-Flossmoor; Jacob Pullen, Proviso East; Justin Hightower, Proviso West; Demetri McCamey, Saint Joseph; Evan Turner, Saint Joseph; Michael Horton, Von Steuben; Chris Colvin, Whitney Young; and A.J. Rompza, Whitney Young.
“The newest additions to the tournament not only give us quality teams, but also provide more individual highly regarded players throughout the bracket,” said Holiday Tournament Executive Director Joe Spagnolo. The new teams also allow for a very balanced geographic distribution, as the sixteen team field now includes three squads from the southern suburbs, three from the northern suburbs, four from the western suburbs, four from the Chicago Public League, three private and one downstate school.
The 46th Annual Proviso West Holiday Tournament will be scheduled for December 27-30 and additional information will be posted on the official tournament website, www.pwhoops.com
