Eight teams from this past year's sixteen team Proviso West Holiday Tournament field have captured IHSA Regional Tournament championships and will continue play in the state tournament series.
In the first forty-four years of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, 83 teams have advanced to the Sweet 16 round of the State Tournament. At least one team from each of the last 26 tournaments have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round and the last seven Proviso West Tournaments have featured at least one team which competed in the Class "AA" Final Four that same year. A record six different teams advanced beyond the Sectional Finals during the 1998-99 campaign.
This year's eight teams advancing to the Sectional Tournaments are: Hillcrest and Homewood-Flossmoor at the Bloom Sectional; Saint Joseph, Fenwick and Proviso East playing at Farragut; Glenbrook North hosting their own sectional; and Von Steuben and New Trier playing at the Niles West Sectional.
In addition, a record 43 floor officials which worked this year's Proviso West Holiday Tournament have received assignments at the Sectional level.
Eleven teams played in the Proviso West Holiday
Tournament and later went on to win state championships that same year.
They are: Evanston (1967-68); Proviso East (1968-69); Lyons Township
(1969-70); Proviso East (1973-74); Morgan Park (1975-76); Martin Luther King
(1985-86); Proviso East (1990-91); Proviso East (1991-92); Saint Joseph
(1998-99); Schaumburg (2000-2001); Glenbrook North (2004-2005).
