PROVISO WEST HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT TO RECOGNIZE STARS FROM THE PAST |

Plans are now underway to recognize stars of past Proviso West Holiday Tournaments through a series of reunions of former all-tournament team players and championship teams. The gatherings, which will take place during the final two nights of the tournament, will focus on players which honed their skills in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament based on five and ten year intervals. Reunions will be planned for each of the next five years continuing through the 50th annual event.
Players and coaches to be recognized at this year’s Christmas Classic will be those who participated in the 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996 and 2001 events.
“We have had an outstanding array of legendary players and a great deal of our success has been from that history. We feel that it is only fitting to bring back these individuals in front of many of the loyal fans who have seen them play in the past,” said Holiday Tournament Executive Director Joe Spagnolo.
In the previous 45 year history of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, 26 players went on to play professional basketball and 11 teams won state championship titles.
