FIELD SET FOR 45TH ANNUAL |
Released: October 22, 2005
De La Salle and Peoria Central are the newest additions to the field of teams
for the 45th Annual Proviso West Holiday Tournament. Peoria won
back-to-back state titles in 2003 and 2004 and join current defending state
champion Glenbrook North, as the last three state titlists will compete on the
Proviso hardwood this year on December 27-30.
The Meteors and the Lions are making their first ever appearances at the Proviso West event. Peoria Central becomes only the second non-Chicago area team to compete at Proviso West during the Christmas Holidays. Rockford Boylan played in the Christmas Classic in 1987 and 1988 and returned again in 1992.
This year’s field of teams has a good blend of both city and suburban teams. The complete sixteen team headline includes: De La Salle, Evanston, Fenwick, Glenbrook North, Hillcrest, Homewood-Flossmoor, Hubbard, Julian, Leyden, New Trier, Peoria Central, Proviso East, Proviso West, Saint Joseph, Von Steuben and Whitney Young.
Early season candidates for Player of the Year could also square off as Glenbrook North’s Jon Scheyer, Proviso East’s Brian Carlwell and Saint Joseph’s Jonathan Peoples are all among the top of the list in the pre-season rankings.
In addition to the blockbuster teams and superior individual talent, this year’s tournament will boast three guaranteed games for each participating team and reduced ticket prices.
