WEST CIRCLE TO BE RENAMED WALT SAWOSKO DRIVE DURING HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT |

The Proviso West Holiday Tournament will
recognize Holiday Tournament originator Walt Sawosko by renaming its Circle
Drive as Walt Sawosko Drive during the four days of this years holiday event.
Sawosko founded the tournament in 1961 with eight teams in an effort to allow
for schools to play locally and avoid extensive travel during the holidays to
downstate tournaments. The event expanded to sixteen teams the
following year and went on to statewide appeal in the late sixties when it
produced three successive state champions, evolving into the state's top
showcase over the next four decades.
Sawokso, the Hillside school's first Athletic Director, was named to the Proviso West Holiday Tournament's 40 Most Influential All-Time All-Tournament Team in 2000, will also toss up the ceremonial opening jump ball in the first game and championship game of this year's tournament.
