RALPH FAUCHER -- Radio Broadcaster. As the voice of WTAQ Radio
for more than three decades, his broadcasts from the west suburban station
were listened to by thousands of high school sports fans. While best
known for coverage of Lyons Township basketball, the station was the
"unofficial flagship station" of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament for
over 25 years. Faucher teamed with Harry Caray in the early seventies
in the radio booth broadcasting Chicago White Sox baseball. Ralph
still continues to work in the industry as a weekend disc jockey at WERL
Radio in Eagle River, Wisconsin. |

STEVE FOLTIN -- Sports
Editor. Worked in the sports department of the City News Bureau from
1968 until the agencies permanent close in 1999. Working behind the
scenes, Foltin oversaw the lone clearinghouse which provided game stories,
scores, standings and rosters to the daily papers and media outlets in the
days before stringer reporters, fax machines and the internet. His
behind the scenes assistance helped the Proviso West Holiday Tournament
achieve its media explosion during the eighties and nineties. After
the City News Bureau, Steve worked the sports prep desk for the Chicago
Sun-Times. Mr. Foltin passed away in March of 2005. |
