FACTS AND FIGURES
From 1983 through 2010, there are 207 different
officials that have worked the annual Proviso West Holiday Tournament.
Eighty-eight officials have worked both the Proviso West Holiday Tournament and
the Illinois High School Association Boys State Tournament in their officiating
careers

Eighty-four different officials are scheduled to work each year in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, each getting a single game assignment, making it the largest officiating corps in the state of Illinois for a single event.
From 2001 through 2009, twenty-seven different
officials worked the championship game of the Proviso West Holiday Tournament,
with no official working the title game more than once in that stretch.
Marc Davis, Ken Falkner and Ron Olesiak, Sr.
officiated at the Proviso West Tournament and in the NBA.
Larry Nemmers and Richard Reels worked both at the Proviso West Tournament and
in the NFL.
Lavere Astroth, who was the Executive Director of the Illinois High School
Association from 1978-91, was a floor official at the Proviso West Holiday
Tournament in the 1960's.
Richie Weiler, who worked the 1962 Proviso West Holiday Tournament championship
game, officiated the 1980 NCAA championship game at the Final Four between UCLA
and Louisville.
The first ever three person officiating crew for a high school game in Illinois
was in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament Semi-Finals in 1983. Reuben Norris,
Ron Olesiak, Sr. and Richard Reels were the three officials in that game.
Tony Sacco and Tony Tortorello hold the record for working the most Proviso West
Holiday Tournament championship game, as each had 11 title game appearances.
The duo worked the title tilt together ten times.
Since 1983, John Dacey has worked the most Proviso West Holiday Tournament
championship games -- seven times (1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000 and
2003).
Father and son combinations to work the Holiday Tournament include Ed and Jeff
Curtin; Ken and Mike Maziarka; and Ron Olesiak, Sr. and Ron Olesiak, Jr.
The Curtins worked together in 1991 and 1992.
Peter King has worked the most consecutive Proviso West Holiday Tournaments, as
his streak reaches 27 straight years, working the event every year from 1984
through 2010.
Jim Bernardi has the most prolific stretch of longevity of all Proviso West
Holiday Tournament officials, as he worked his first Proviso West Christmas
classic in 1977 and was still working at Proviso West in 2010.
